Childcare VS A Small Business

A year ago I left full time employment to turn a side hustle into a full time business.

Being self employed has had its ups and down and it has not been easy at all. Having said that, I love it and appreciate small wins every day.

Each new week brings a new scenario I have never dealt with before and it's down to me to get it sorted in any way I can; whether that's cash flow concerns, lack of work or setting up websites and creating reels for social media.

The latest scenario has been childcare issues for the summer holidays. Now in my previous role it would have been a simple approach for me; head down and work from the morning till the evening at the office leaving most of the focus on my Wife to deal with the two children under 5, either by looking after them or getting them to childcare and working reduced hours.

That has changed now and due to my irregular work pattern I take more of a ‘primary’ role in sorting the kids.

Now I am sure that no one in the world has ever struggled with childcare during the holidays before and we are the first (sarcasm) and the point of this post is not to gloat but simply to point out a pretty big observation in how things have changed over a relatively short period of time and how we manage a new work life balance.

I remember that old quote “I didn’t want a 9-5 job so I started my own business. Now I work 24/7”.

I can really relate to this now and would like to applaud all small businesses for doing whats needed, all of the time.
